Scrapping Challenge

Time for the June Scrapping Challenge from Scrapbooks ETC and weren't the papers in the pack just yummy. My Mind's Eye Penny Lane range with some great double sided patterned papers. A piece of chipboard, flowers, decorative pin and ghost bookplates. Our challenge was to add metal - and with that I chose to add a couple of tag brads, threaded floss between them and tied this in a bow. The decorate owl paper was fancy cut in several pieces to highlight the top of my layout.

We Dare You Challenge

This week’s challenge from Scrappit was to use ribbon on a page. I was so inspired by a recent layout by one of my favourite American Scrappers, Jennifer McGuire, used both ribbon in a very creative way but also managed to fit nine photos on one 12 x 12 page.

Oh, and you’ll notice I actually added a bit of extra colour to the Prima felt leaf by swiping on streaks of green Tombow pen. This gave it a little more oomph don’t you think?

We Dare You Challenge

This weeks challenge from Scrappit was to centre your page around a date. Not one date stuck out in my mind but more a day. Every Sunday, after Dad purchased the boat, we would head off to Coochy or Jacobs Well to do some fishing. I've added the extract from my journaling in case your interested.

Dad bought a boat and we would all go out on a Sunday. I hated being woken before dawn to go fishing but once we were on the road I didn’t mind. On the drive to launch the boat at Victoria Point boat ramp we drove through Capalaba and as the sun was rising I remember thinking I was seeing little men working in the trees as the sun shone through them creating shapes. It’s funny how no one else seemed to see these men.

Fishing was always fun. Putting the squirmy worm or prawn on the hook and tossing your line in the water. I remember always being the first to catch something but needing Dad to take the fish off the hook. Mum always made egg and lettuce sandwiches to take for lunch. The mixture of bait, sea water to wash your hands and sandwiches that had been make hours before was always a good combination. Everyone was always tuckered out on the way home but everyone had to help unload and wash the boat down when we got back home. I must admit I would always say I needed to go to the toilet and stay in the bathroom until everything was done. Maybe Mum and Dad knew this but I can never remember getting in trouble for it though. One of the strangest things I can remember was Dad catching eels. He would bring them home and keep them alive in the concrete tubs in the laundry until they were ready for eating. I don’t seem to remember what they tasted like though.

We Dare You Challenge

Time for another We Dare You Challenge and this week we were asked to scrap someone else's photos. This again was a great opportunity to create another layout for 'My Album' as this is a photo of a scanned slide of the house I grew up in. I spent twelve years in this house and it really brings back some very vivid memories. Isn't it funny to remember how big you thought your house was when you were growing up, only to see it now and think, my god, how did all six of us live in this tiny housing commissioned home?

This time I have added hand stitching above and below the patterned paper edge and added ribbon and a strip of pearls to finish.

I love to use my journaling tags and to complete my design I ran these through the printer.

A few Kaisercraft pearls and my layout is complete. Score another one for 'My Album'.

Scrappit Pack - June

Time for another Scrappit Pack and these double sided papers from Fancy Pants are just so versatile. I have used nearly all of the patterned from the papers including my journaling which has been raised using foam tape.

I have used a similar technique as before and hand cut extra leaves from the pattered paper, folded them in half and glued the centre to the background paper. This give the leaves a 3D effect. I have also trimmed a couple of flower centres from the patterned paper and used a pop dot to place them over the original design.

I love to machine or hand stitch on my layouts and here I have used a combination of both. Matching my thread to the paper, I have hand stitched on the green and orange paper then machine stitched the blue design.

I wanted to use every colour of paper on my layout and decided to add a strip of blue paper inside the orange on the bottom of my layout. I also wanted to ensure both scrolls on either side were on the page. My answer; fold the paper in segments until you have the right width for the area you want to use. Perfect and this also adds a bit of extra zing.

To highlight the stems of the flowers, I've used a small piece of the ric rac and adhered with thin tape.

Scrapping Challenge

So here we are and that time of month again. I've decided I did so well in the last challenge at my local store that I would give it a go again. Fingers crossed that I'm as lucky as last month.....

We were given a piece of white cardstock, a double sided patterned paper, a transparancy sheet, two ribbons and a sheet of rubons to use. Oh and the little extra was to incorporate paint somewhere on the layout. I wonder if you've found the use of paint.... it was actually used on the reverse of the transparency flourishes. As much as I love paint, and I must say I have quite a few to choose from, I'm not such a fan to use it directly on a layout. I think it looks pretty good after all, don't you?

We Dare You Challenge

This weeks challenge was to look at the younger you. I've been trying to complete a few pages recently for my 'Me' album and this was a great opportunity to create yet another page about my childhood memories. Funny as it may seem I actually wrote about our clothes line and wash days.

We thought we were so cool when we got a twin tub washer as an upgrade from the old wringer model. Only problem was we were a family of six and it only fit one sheet in at a time. Wash day literally meant all day long.

Here's what I wrote:

Clothes line. As every kid did back in the sixties the clothes line was the only way to fly. Mum had a wire line job and after we all had a turn (several) the line was on a slight angle after that. On wash days every line space was taken and with six of us it didn’t take too much to fill. I remember the old laundry tubs were made of concrete. The twin tub washing machine replaced the old one with the wringer you used to feed the washing through to squeeze out the excess water. Still, for the size of the loads it could only take a sheet at a time as it was so small. Washing day went for literally the whole day. Piles of washing would fill the small laundry and spill out on the path beside the room.
